The History of the Yasmin Bratz Doll

The Yasmin Bratz doll has been part of the Bratz line since the beginning. She was one of the original four Bratz dolls to be released, along with Jade, Sasha, and Cloe. Yasmin has been very popular, her wide appeal stemming in part from her ethnic appearance. The Yasmin Bratz doll has an appearance that could be taken as a number of ethnicities, including Hispanic or Middle Eastern, thus allowing girls from a number of ethnic backgrounds to relate to the doll.

In fact, the Yasmin Bratz doll is based (however loosely) on the daughter of the Bratz line, who immigrated into the United States from Iran. His daughter was the inspiration for the toys, as she had outgrown other fashion dolls and wanted a doll that was a little more 'grown up' to play with. He tackled this problem and created the Bratz dolls to fill need, which many other girls shared, it seems, as the dolls were an instant hit. Since their creation, the Bratz dolls have become the best selling fashion doll in the world. Who knew such a huge toy phenomenon could come from one girl and her desire for a new doll?

Yasmin (also sometimes spelled Yasmine) is an Iranian name with Persian origins. It is the Persian form of Jasmine, the name of a flower that is used in perfumes. This name adds to the culturally diverse image that has helped give the Bratz their wide appeal. In fact, Yasmin is one of the few (perhaps even only) fashion dolls widely available in the United States of a girl that is very openly and obviously of Middle Eastern ascent. In times where cultural barriers are being broken down, these lessons in acceptance are certainly valuable to today's children.

To date, the Yasmin Bratz doll has appeared in dozens of different Bratz collections. Although many other girls have been added to the ranks of the Bratz pack, the original four characters are still the ones that make appearances most consistently, in toy line after toy line. Yasmin has taken a trip through the days of cattle rustling outlaws and range riding lawmen in the Wild Wild West collection. She has shown her skills at soccer in the Bratz Sportz collection. She has even given the world a chance to see her in her early days as part of the Bratz Babyz line (a line in which she has appeared a number of different times as well.)

Through her different iterations, Yasmin has shown girls that this world is one in which you can be whatever you like, no matter what gender you are, or what ethnic background you have, and you can look good doing it. These values and lessons that are taught to girls around the world through the Yasmin Bratz doll, as well as the other members of the Bratz girls, will most certainly continue to be the underlying theme in the Bratz line. And it is these aspects of the toy's message that give the dolls more depth than other toy lines, and have lead to their popularity.
